What are your 3 favorite albums ever recorded and why?
Tool - Lateralus
I loved this album because I was
always a Tool fan, and for me it was the best of both
worlds, my favorite band had amazing new songs, and they
were prog at the same time.
Liquid Nation - (I promise I'm not
kissing ass) :)
Not only was this band right up my
alley, but they were local and I could go see them every 6
or so weeks two nights in a row!!! Liquid Nation pulled the
songs off the right way every time. And as far as the album
itself was, I loved every song and set up night after night
trying to learn to play all of it. I got to know a couple of
guys in the band really well and knowing the passion they
had for that recording was an amazing gift in itself.
HIM - Darklight
Every song from front to back on this
album is an inspiration on so many levels...I'll give you
details in the "HIM" question on down the page ha ha.
What are your favorite venues to play in
Cincinnati?
The Holy Grail, The Mad Frog, and Top
Cats. I liked Never On's back in about 97' too.
Another Tragedy recorded a great sounding full length CD. I
know you guys have shopped it top a few labels.
What are your plans with the recording?
Will it be released soon
locally?
We just signed a small deal with a UK
company called Zebra 3 Records, we are looking forward to
seeing where that goes, and It appears we will be releasing
our CD towards the end of November.
Another Tragedy is managed by Jim Sfarnas of the
band Acumen. How did you first meet up with Jim and what all
does he do for the band?
Jim has been in the music
industry for a long time and we have been very fortunate to
hook up with him and have him as excited about our music as
what we are. Jim handles everything for us at this point
from shopping the discs, to marketing, web page design, and
he is the person that kinda gives us insight into the right
way to spend our time at rehearsals and touring regionally.
We will be going to the UK to support our CD in the near
future and he will act as tour manager in those types of
cases. He does so many things that its really tough to name
them all. I am very thankful and would recommend every band
to try and hook up with someone like Jim.
You do a lot of shows with local promoter Paul Riley. Does
he book all your shows now?
Not all of them, but most.
Do you think it is important for a band to build a huge
local following if there trying to get a record deal?
I think it's important to do your
best to achieve that, but I sometimes wonder if a "huge"
following is possible in this town.
Who are some of your favorite local
Cincinnati bands?
The Host, The Screaming Kings, Crooked
Rook, Fizz-gig (not sure of that spelling)
Do you feel Another Tragedy fills all your musical desires?
Do ever have any thoughts of going off and doing side
projects?
Yes, I love this band and I'm very
satisfied, however I would like to do side projects as
well that would allow me to write with other people also.
Before forming Another Tragedy you were in a band called
Fetish. Fetish did fairly well locally releasing a CD and
playing many shows throughout the region. What led to the
demise of Fetish?
It was time for us to move on, we
kinda just all felt it and diffused the band. No hard
feeling towards anyone, but it was a dead horse to a
degree.
I
know you’re a big fan of the band HIM.
What is it about the band you like so much?
And what other current national bands have you been
getting into?
I love HIM, and for me they are a band
that I can just listen to and not have to think about. I
love their image, sound, and musical integrity. I highly
recommend that everyone check them out and give their sound
a chance.
I'm also really liking 30 Seconds to
Mars, Underoath, and Avenged Sevenfold.
What are your future plans for Another Tragedy?
To write as many songs as possible,
and try whatever it takes to get as many people as possible
to hear them!
Thanks a lot for the interview,
Lee
