Sean Boyle is the Bassist for the Cincinnati band A Present Day Nightmare.
He also “spits, swears, and owns a leather Jacket.” Hahahaha (taken from his myspace profile)
In all seriousness he’s one cool dude who tells it like it is.
Here’s what he recently had to say.

1. APDN already had a local release for your latest E.P. "Still Monologue".
But last I read you guys signed with Resound Gr!nd Records to release the EP in Europe and in Canada, and that the disc will be distributed through Century Media. Is this still happening? And when is the release date?

Yeah it's still happening. Ya know when you sign to an indie label it takes a lot of time and legal things to get everything together. The release will be in springtime. That’s all I'm telling you.

2. The EP was also produced by Ken Susi of UNEARTH. How did you guys hook up with Ken?
I’m trying to think....Oh yeah....Unearth played at the Madison theatre, and Mr. Jon Pauly hands Ken a copy of our "Symphony of a Broken Heart" CD Next day Ken called us back while we were at practice and it went on from there.

3. You recently got an Endorsement deal with TRABEN BASS Company www.trabenbass.com
Tell us a little about the deal, and when do you get your first bass?

Traben was interested in me. I assume they think I am a big deal...which I am...so I get my first bass beginning of March. Maybe my own signature model soon...who knows.

4. Before you joined APDN were you a fan of their stuff?
Yeah I was, I was in another band that use to play with them just about every show. Ummm... I grew a great relationship with the dudes, dug their tunes, quit my band, then they called me up... I was in the band at my first note I tried out.

5. You’re a regular at the cincymetal.com boards. Why all the drama there? Is it just a bunch of whiny babies or what?
Yeah, the CincyMetal board is full of shit really, I’m the original badass shit talker on there...but then I grew out of it, and now people older than me are on there flooding the board always fighting about the same issues. Basically 90% of the posters are pussies and can’t talk face to face to settle things.

6. What’s your take on all the constant Paul Riley bashing?
YES!! Good 'ol Paul Riley!
The poor 'ol guy is just trying to make a living promoting bands, screwing them over...whatever...again I'm probably the first person to ever bash that guy...I guess a lot of people still bash him cause their jealous of what he does, or where he books, and who he can book... I personally don’t know. I’ve had my issues with him, but I have also given him a second chance, which he has improved, so yeah Paul Riley is good in my book, and I believe that everyone deserves a second chance.

7. What bands in the Cincinnati area have a shot of doing something?
I’m not going to name drop in this situation. Can't piss more people off, but the only bands that have a shot at something are the ones who can draw massive people "cough cough" Screaming Kings "cough cough", sell a lot of merch, get their asses out of the city for a few gigs out of the month, and most importantly "BE A TALENTED BAND". Also it’s WHO YOU KNOW, NOT WHAT YOU KNOW"

8. What unsigned bands outside of Cincy have impressed you?
Well the only band I’ve shared a stage with outside of Cincinnati that was UNSIGNED was YEAR OF DESOLATION, from Indianapolis...but from what I hear, they got a deal on Prothstetic records now...they totally deserve it.

9. Why do you think so many bands in the CincyMetal scene keep playing only the clubs on Vine Street?
This is a very good question...I'll start off by saying that Vine street is a very Metal/Punk "friendly" market to the city. A lot of bands got their first shows ever on Short Vine clubs. To answer your question about why bands are stuck on Vine street, is because
1. It’s easy to get a show booked on a Vine street club, compared to anywhere else
2. Metal friendly clubs.
3. People don’t get off their asses to go try to play another venue
4. Some bands think its disloyal to play outside their main bar

I have been fortunate enough to where my own band has played just about every club in Cincinnati, we are able to play bars, all ages shows with younger crowd, and we could rock a coffee shop if we wanted to.

10. Very often, bands reach a certain level of local success but aren't able to make it to the next level. Why?
And what mistakes do you think bands commonly make?

I'll bring up again, that ITS WHO YOU KNOW, NOT WHAT YOU KNOW, you can be the most amazing band ever, but if you can't draw shit or sell shit , then nobody is interested. A common mistake for bands is either, constantly playing in the same venue over and over, playing too much in the same town, not leaving town, having bad songs, a bad image.....NOT PROMOTING!!

11. Are you really that big a fan of eighties music? How the hell do you know all those bands?
I am a HUGE fan of the 80's decade..music wise.. I know a lot about these bands .. pretty much because majority of my friends are over 30 heheh

12. Any Last words for your fans?
Fans?? I have them? hahah ...well if I do have personal fans then I encourage them to come out to my shows, buy my shirts, buy my cd's and Party Every Day!
